🌟Seeking Your Advice!🌟We've implemented a bilingual stipend program for our employees, rewarding those who demonstrate proficiency in a second language. However, we've hit a roadblock: our chosen testing provider, LTI, cannot effectively assess our Kriolu-speaking employees, creating inequity in access to this additional pay.Additionally, our language learning tool, Mango, only offers Brazilian Portuguese. This makes supporting our Kriolu-speaking staff even more challenging. We need your insights! Do you know of any effective ways to assess proficiency in Kriolu? Any recommendations for tools or resources would be incredibly helpful. This is not just about fair compensation—it's also about cultural inclusion.Thank you for your guidance!#CapeVerdeanKriou #LanguageProficiency #BilingualStipend #CulturalPreservation #Kriolu #EquityInTheWorkplace

Lucy, as a Kriolu-speaking person, it makes me so happy that you are creating cultural awareness for the beloved Kriolu language. Have you met Inedia Rocha? She might have a recommendation. I can make an introduction for you. Also, Silas Otniel Rodrigues Pinto, Ph.D. and connecting with the Executive Director, Allessandra Soares from CACD might provide some suggestions. I think they were doing Kriolu classes at the community center. Just a thought—I hope this helps!

Thank you Lucy for bringing this up, my client also requested this from LTI but they require a minimum of one year to bring a new language or dialect to the system for testing. Hoping your team could complete this form so we can get at least 10 participants to request it: https://www.actfl.org/assessments/request-an-assessment-new-language-form. We also requested ASL. Hoping you find a solution and would love to hear what you found!

Hi Lucy. Nezi Brito who teaches Kriolu at Harvard and Manuel da Luz Goncalves of Mili Mila would be great expert resources to assess Kriolu. This is a great initiative on your part.
